About
Hi, my name is Jody. I am the illustrator and real life human being behind Queen of the Rodeo.
I am a Kent based artist and most importantly, mother to my 2 wonderful daughters. Being,a new mother is tough, combined with a pandemic, lockdowns and the loss of my support network, I am not the only one who’s mental health took a sharp decline. I found control, solace and escapism in the form of creating beautiful images that evoked beauty and magic for me and my family. It was actually through my children that I rediscovered my passion for creating art - on the day that I picked up the new oil pastel set intended for my then 2 year old – I haven’t looked back!
I continued this as a hobby, creating abstract pastel and pencil portraits of things that inspired me, my daughters and the flowers and plants in my garden (it was lockdown after all!) until I eventually stumbled upon the medium of digital art. Far from being the tool for mass produced art posters I had imagined it to be - I discovered that drawing on my pad, in fact, opened up a whole new world of possibilities, allowing me to explore themes and styles I couldn’t have fathomed before. From there was borne the concept for Queen of the Rodeo.
Through my work, I hope to open a gateway – a path if you will, that leads you into my world, a whimsical and ethereal place that showcases (and romanticises) the beauty that everyday life has to offer.
May my creations bring you as much joy as they bring to me.
Love and peace
Jody
