Make a gallery wall work in your space

Making a gallery wall work in your space..

It can feel overwhelming when you’re suddenly faced with a big and boring blank wall. You may have scrolled through countless Pinterest posts and saved hundreds of images of perfectly curated gallery walls and been tempted to rush in. My advice to you on this would be – don’t do it! These images you see on Pinterest have indeed been lovingly and thoughtfully crafted over time, a showcase of personal style and passions.

  • Perfecting the home that brings you pleasure takes time…

It’s important to love each individual piece rather than just throwing up a bunch of colour matched pieces that have been curated by someone else with the purpose of making you an “instant gallery”.

  • Beauty is in the eye of the beholder…

You don’t need one-of-a-kind originals to do this, nowadays, there is an abundance of beautiful pieces that all fit within a budget to suit anyone. Its ok to buy a piece just because it’s nice to look at. The key to personalising your home is to have things in it that bring you joy when you see them.

  • Do you want to create impact?

Choose pieces in a range of sizes and colours, don’t be afraid to add items that don’t come in a frame or canvas - think decorative plates, tapestry hangings (I’m working on range of these – more to come on that point soon!), plaque mounted pottery, you can even add a huge impact to a space by zoning this area with your own paintwork!

  • Frames

A personal hobby of mine is shopping for frames in charity shops. I have an array of wonderful vintage frames that happened to be home to some rather uninspiring works of art and have repurposed them in my own home, creating some truly unique pieces, adding your own picture mounts can ensure that they will fit.

  • Colour

When curating your dream wall that will reflect that true element of you, don’t be afraid to mix and match colours. If you have neutral walls, the world is literally your oyster! You can channel a maximalist vibe even in a neutral space using bright pops of colour alongside pared back pieces.

If you’re going for that relaxed and laid back scandi vibe, don’t feel you need to stick beige and greige or typography prints to make it so, the risk is you’ll end up feeling as if you are living in a chain hotel.

For those of you wondering, the paint colours featured on my gallery wall are by my favourite paint brand company ever - Lick paints - the colours are the very brilliantly named Blue 02 and Pink 03. Have a look at their beautiful range here.
